After moving in with my sister and brother-in-law at 18 years old I saw firsthand the reality of the foster care system. Kids were being dropped at our doorstep usually with no more than the clothes on their backs. Pain, anger, fear, and confusion are only some of the emotions I witnessed these children experience. The last thing they needed was to be dragged from store to store in order to provide them with the basic necessities of life. Fortunately, I was able to go get these items for the kids in our home. But Bailey and I realized not everyone has a live-in sister. This was a huge gap in the system and we thought maybe, just maybe we could fill it. Since co-founding The Hands and Feet literally overnight in our garage my eyes have been opened more and more each day. I realized it is not just foster parents and children who need support but relative and non-relative caregivers, biological parents, teens in group homes, and especially youth who have aged out of the system. The world constantly tells them time and time again they don’t matter, but they do! I hope that with each delivery we make we can remind these incredible children and families that they are important and they are not alone.
